The importance of designing a future proof sustainable urban drainage system has never been stronger following the initial early drought and subsequent floods of 2012.
ESI has a team of experienced consultants to design and deliver SUDS plans required by local authorities as part of the planning process. ESI’s SUDS designs reduce the risk of flooding to developments of all sizes and to the surrounding area through the sustainable management of surface water drainage.
ESI’s SUDS designs are compliant to PPS25 sustainable drainage strategies.
What is a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS)?
The aim of an effective SUDS system is to replicate nature’s way of dealing with excess water using cost effective solutions with a low environmental impact to drain surface water run-off through collection and storage before allowing it to be released slowly back into the environment. This method is very different to conventional drainage systems that are not designed to manage occurences of flooding ”“ with the potential impact to harm wildlife and possible contamination of controlled waters. The idea of SUDS solutions should be the design of a system that is easy to manage, is virtually maintenance free and is environmentally and aesthetically appealing.
